Munich-based BMW M Motorsport has finalised its highly-anticipated line-up for the Hypercar class in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), featuring a blend of experience and fresh talent. The team is set to make a striking return to the championship, featuring two BMW M Hybrid V8s managed by BMW M Team WRT.
Raffaele Marciello and Marco Wittmann will join forces with Dries Vanthoor in the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8. Meanwhile, Robin Frijns, René Rast, and Sheldon van der Linde will be driving the #20 car. This selection marks a strategic combination of driving excellence and deep-seated experience in endurance racing.
Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport, expressed his confidence in the line-up, stating, "We compete in the 2024 WEC season with a very strong selection from our high-class works driver squad in the Hypercar class. We have combined driving excellence with experience in the two BMW M Hybrid V8s".
Vincent Vosse, Team Principal at BMW M Team WRT, shared his enthusiasm, calling the driver line-up a "dream team". He acknowledged the longstanding relationships with several drivers and the promising initial tests with newcomers Wittmann and Marciello. Vosse highlighted the team's high expectations, given the remarkable speed and skill of the drivers.
Driver Raffaele Marciello shared his excitement, noting the significance of competing for race wins and titles in the FIA WEC. "Having been opponents on the racetrack for years, it is fantastic to drive alongside Dries Vanthoor. And to have a BMW M Motorsport legend like Marco Wittmann on your side is fantastic. I hope to learn from the two of them," Marciello remarked.
Marco Wittmann also expressed his excitement about joining the WEC squad, especially competing in the Hypercar class. "The 24 Hours of Le Mans has always been on my bucket list. To drive in the top class in 2024 and hopefully challenge for victory is a dream come true," Wittmann said.
Robin Frijns, gearing up for the #20 BMW M Hybrid V8, looks forward to the Le Mans event and is confident in the team's abilities. "I am driving alongside two champions – what could possibly go wrong?" he quipped.
Lastly, René Rast, who will also be part of the #20 team, shared his excitement about this new chapter with BMW M Motorsport, highlighting the new golden era of endurance racing.
